crazy weekend [13 Mar 2009|05:59pm]
[ mood | stressed ]
[ music | metallica ]

Tomorrow's the big test, yikes! Tonight I'm going to Topeka to stay at the Smith's so I don't have to drive in the morning. I'll have a chance to sleep a little later and really figure out where I should go. After the test, I'll rush over to LBC for Scott and Michelle's couples shower. Then go home, nap, and head BACK to Topeka for "Hollywood Spectacular."

Sunday: Teach music to preschoolers, kindergartners first and second graders, teach K-2 music, sing in choir, watch rob get ordained as deacon, practice handbells, then head to the overton's for a celebratory lunch.

After lunch, Michelle and I are hanging out to FINALLY celebrate her engagement!

Then I'll sleep. :)

Best day EVER (almost) [13 Mar 2009|07:07am]
[ mood | awake ]

Yesterday was probably the best day ever. (Excluding my wedding day). I had such a fun time at school! To thank my kids for doing an awesome job in their program last month, I had a dance party in class. All we did was dance! It's crazy how the kids know the music from my middle school dances. YMCA, Macarena, Who Let the Dogs Out?, and they absolutely LOVE the Cha Cha Slide. And the primary grades really got into the hokey pokey. That song just doesn't get old, huh?

Tomorrow I have my ESOL Praxis test. Eeee. I'm nervous.

No more kids today, just inservice and work-day. Hopefully I'll be really productive and get a lot of plans made.

belated entry... [11 Mar 2009|07:02pm]
[ mood | tired ]
[ music | cold play ]

Wow, so it's been a long time, and jessica told me I should update.

So here I am!

Rob and I have two cats. I'm still teaching elementary music.

Here's a funny quote from choir folk at Lucky's last night:
"I had a mullet, and it turned into banana curls."

I think it may have been funnier with a beer!

I'm going to try my hand at asian cooking. The allergy doctor and I have decided that I have a milk allergy. Sigh. However, since i started really limiting my dairy intake, my headaches have almost disappeared. Which is AWEsome.

Saturday I take the ESOL (English Speakers of other Languages) Praxis test. I'm super nervous about the methodology and grammar/syntax section.

Back to studying.......

day after halloween [01 Nov 2007|11:32am]
[ mood | aggravated ]

I'm tired. I'm sick of school. And my feelings are hurt.

NOT a good day!

We bought a car yesterday. It was the fastest purchase ever. As far as car purchases go. And kind of expensive. I think I need to go clothes shopping to make up for it. And buy those $275 stuart something designer shoes that I've been eying for a long time. But they're probably gone because they were so perfect. Absolutely sexy and divinely gorgeous.

sigh.

Hopefully this afternoon will be much better than this morning. And this evening I'm going to the KU game. Rock Chalk!

Thunderstorms...mmmmmm [13 Oct 2007|08:01am]
[ mood | calm ]

It is raining and thundering. Mmmm. My favorite type of weather in the fall. Unfortunately I'm planning on going to the football game later this morning. I hope it clears up somewhat!

Lots have happened since we bought a house. I gave birth to a mango sized cyst, went to branson with my mom, canoed with robbie on the meramac river, we adopted to adorable cats, started school, love my new schools (one way more than the other) and am greatly enjoying KU football.

oooh, the bed for our guest bedroom came in this past week so now we need to clean up that room to make it liveable. AND buy mattresses for the bed! It's a daybed with a trundle. :)

We also bought gutters and gutterhelmets, which seem to be functioning appropriately at the moment: no waterfalls off of the roof. And next week our replacement windows are being installed!

Now it's time to shut off the computer. And step away from the window.

See you in three months?

what a let down. we were going to put a contract together to make an offer on a wonderful house over lunch today, and it sold last night. augh! oh well.

maybe we'll find a better one next week. we better. and maybe the chimney on the one we were going to bid on will fall in. it'll serve them right for stealing it from us.

sick and tired [27 Feb 2007|03:06pm]

I fucking HATE my job.  I hate my principal.  I hate my room. I hate my god damned working conditions.  I wish we weren't going to buy a house so that I'm not obligated to stay here if I don't find a job. I wish that I had started applying for jobs in december, I wish that I had resigned from this shitty shitty job last year.

I hate that only 2 staff members in this building try to be flexible, nobody is willing to help anybody else out unless they get something in return.  Maybe I shouldn't have even gotten into education if I was going to have to deal with bull shit.

Ice scraper [15 Jan 2007|12:55pm]
[ mood | cold ]
[ music | NPR ]

So I helped Robbie scrape his car this morning, and then we switched ice scrapers (his ice scraper has a long handle and a brush). I wish I had my ice scraper! The one he uses has terrible plastic, it's really thin, part of it already broke (sorry robbie) and NOTHING IS HAPPENING TO MY WINDSHIELD. My ice scraper is really thick, and has a double action thing. I miss it. :(

STUPID ICE

I guess we should be lucky that we were able to get both of our cars out of their spots this morning. I was worried robbie was going to have to take my car to work and I was going to have to cancel my trip into lawrence. His car was stuck. Not moving.

I also have to get two suitcases into my car. We'll see if I'll be able to get any of the doors open. I know for a fact that the passenger side isn't opening. And it's not locked (I checked!). I have started the car, so if I have to finangle the suitcasesn in through the drivers side, so be it, but...sheesh!

hopefully my car will warm up fast. I can't see my windshield wipers through the ice. I should have scraped the blasted thing over the weekend. Ah well, live and learn, eh?

I will try to write more often...I will try.

Things have been busy. We got through the holidays. I was sick yesterday and today. Boo for that. We went to the bahamas over break which was wonderful, and we also visited my grandparents. It was great to see how well my grandma is doing.

Planning on going to the KU v MU game on Monday. Rock Chalk!

Ugly Betty [28 Sep 2006|09:38pm]
[ mood | chipper ]

OKAY PEOPLE!!!!!

I have a TV show. It has been FIVE YEARS (5 years) since I have had a TV show.

Every Thursday night at 7pm, I will be watching "Ugly Betty." The show has me intrigued.

I also am now interested in "Grey's Anatomy." (Tonight was my first episode). HOWEVER...I am slightly confused about Izzy. (Izzie?) What happened to make her bake muffins?

That is all.

:-D

Bittersweet.... [26 Sep 2006|08:18pm]
[ mood | reminiscent ]
[ music | "Somewhere in My Memory" ]

I hate how I have delayed reactions to everything.

I was perusing facebook (because I actually had time) and I just miss being a college student, and I miss the schol halls, and I miss being on campus...there are relationships that I tried to maintain as an RA that fizzled out, and now those girls are married...and it's just kind of sad, all the people that crossed my path that I'll probably never see again.

To make matters worse, I have a song in my head that makes me cry too!

Sigh.

But to make things extraordinary wonderful...I have the perfectest bestest husband in the world.

BAH! [26 Sep 2006|11:02am]
My 5th graders are demons from hell. They can't walk up the damn stairs into my room without getting into a fight. I had two, repeat, TWO fights 30 seconds after class started. Do you know how FRUSTRATING that is?!

I have no call button, so I have to send kids out with kids.

PE is getting louder by the day. I am coming very close to asking if I can travel from room to room. I can't hear the kids, they can't hear me. It sucks.

I still feel sick. RAUGH!

Long time no write [09 Sep 2006|09:25am]
[ mood | Happy Saturday! ]

School is going fairly well. I really like lunch duty with the 1st and 3rd graders; it's fun. Being on the stage isn't as bad as expected...in fact, my school ordered these awesome Wenger FlipForm risers for my stage.

A few school incidents:

1st grade: Gushing bloody nose all over. Had another student run to office for help, no one came, so sent the poor kid by himself. He came back with bloody clothes, so I had to send him back to the office with a note: "Change his clothes. Blood-borne pathogens?!"

1st grade: Student threw huge temper tantrum because I gave her a warning about her carpet square "If you keep playing with it, you'll have to put it back". She started throwing the carpet squares, kicking around. Rest of kids moved away, and I taught class in a corner while the girl kept screaming. Class left for PE, girl still in room. I go to office to tell them that she needs to be roemoved; they had to bodily remove her. Called dad.

2nd grade: Boy's head crawling with lice. EW! Thankfully the white kids are in minority...lice doesn't effect the black person's hair at all (too oily) and the latino's hair is too thick or something....

Married life is still going well. The things that need to get done still haven't gotten done. Last weekend we bought two big bookshelves, and I have yet to fill them. Maybe tomorrow. And, there's ALWAYS laundry. AUGH!

Joined a choir in KC: William Baker Festival Singers. AWE-SOME. I really enjoy being challenged. And singing with adults. :)

Now I must keep going with the laundry. R and I are headed to Lawrence for the Oompah-Fest at Southpark, then we're meeting my parents for the KU football game.

ROCK CHALK JAYHAWKS!

here is your update, Nick [03 Aug 2006|08:15pm]
[ mood | busy ]

The kids started school today, so that was fun. The music room is now on the stage, which connects to the MultiPurpose room. The MPR hosts PE and lunch. So, basically, this year it is going to be a bit difficult and extremeley frustrating

I LOVE BEING MARRIED!

Grandma Koch isn't doing well; Rob, mom dad and I are making an emergency trip out to the farm to visit and share wedding pics, etc, with Grandma while she's still here (gpa doesn't think she'll make it to her next birthday, which is in a week)

We painted our basement. Now we need to move all the furniture back to it's original spot, or I'm going to go crazy.

Started working on Thank Yous. Almost done with bridal shower ones; will be getting to wedding thank yous next.

Lots of pregnant people around (not me). two of our teachers are due in October, and our lone male teacher's wife is due in January.

Tired and need to get seating charts ready. And pack.

I hate playing Magic and losing. Especially when I built a deck while drafting AND it was a good deck AND I was able to get my 20/20 nondestructible flying creature token into play! (but only at the end when my HUSBAND was killing me). he said he was sorry, but if he was sorry he wouldn't have killed me. harumph.

I LOVE THIS WEATHER!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

sigh [18 Jul 2006|10:34am]
[ mood | waking up... ]

What a day. And I've only been up for 45 minutes!!!! Under normal circumstances, that would be great, but I have a lot I need to get done today, and was hoping to get stuff done this morning. But, I have almost 90 minutes to get stuff done "this morning" so I think it'll work out.

I felt bad for sleeping in, but when I went downstairs to eat breakfast with Robbie, he told me to not worry about it and go back to sleep. I called him to see what time he was going to come home for lunch, but he's not. And, I got in touch with our photographer, and am picking up our proof book AND the CDs with the pictures, so I also asked Robbie what time he wanted dinner (Before or after I picked up the pics) knowing that he would say "Whatever works best for you, Mel." Which he did say, and I was going to respond with "after"...but then he said "oh, I'm teaching class tonight, so dinner needs to be before..."

harumph. Oh well. I'll get over it.
Tomorrow is Wedensday, so R doesn't go in to work until after lunch, so we'll have breakfast AND lunch together...and, we have a dinner date at church! I'm excited. Hopefully some of the couples we had lunch with on Sunday will be there tomorrow.
Ok, I'm over it. :)

Well, I'm going to unpack the boxes that we brought back from Lawrence last night. Then, Carrie and I are meeting at Home Depot to pick out PAINT for the BASEMENT!

OH! GUESS WHAT?!?!?! I'm so proud of Robbie!!!!!! He put the dry wall up ALL BY HIMSELF. Then, he mudded the drywall ALL BY HIMSELF. Then, he added another layer. And Saturday we SANDED the drywall TOGETHER. So now it's ready to be painted!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Well, I'm married.

YAY!

The wedding was absolutely BEAUTIFUL! Once we get our pictures organized (there are around 330 from Greg, at least 300 from our photographer, and we took 361 on our honeymoon) I'll let you know where you can look at them.

Hawaii was a blast! We had so much fun. We cruised to 4 islands: Maui, Hawaii (the Big Island), Kauai and Oahu. Kauai was our favorite. Very green and natural and very clean.

So far this week it's just been organizing and throwing away. And some cleaning and sleeping, too. I can finally see my kitchen counter!

Just wanted to let you know I'm alive and well. So is my husband. :D

BYE BYE!

[ music | (In head) Jupiter ]

I'm getting married, I'm getting married, I'm getting married hey, hey hey, hey! (yay little rascals)

WOW! Last night was the rehearsal. I'll do the number of crying moments:

1. 30 minutes before the rehearsal (I was writing a letter to Robbie).

2. 2 minutes after arriving at the church. The horns and organ were playing "Jupiter." (Mom asked if I was having second thoughts)

Not on your life!

3. Walking down the aisle and standing by Robbie. (I was sobbing!)

4. At the rehearsal dinner. I had given Madelyn and Kaitlyn their gifts with a little card/note...Chris Johnson read the notes and got tears in his eyes...so I started crying. (plus, Tert was playing "The Luckiest" on the piano at the moment).

5. Got choked up while having one last non married DATE with Robbie. We were sitting in the park on a bench and just talking.

6. A few minutes ago. I checked my email and had a really sweet message from my groom. Plus, he sent me a link to our website...and then I got teary-eyed again!

I AM SO SO SO SO SO SO EXCITED!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Bachelorette Party [23 Jun 2006|01:05am]
[ mood | frustrated ]

WHAT A FUN NIGHT!

The first thing that happened was: Cori presented me with a Bachelorette Goody Bag, complete with sample edible lubes, flavored condoms, a sash, a crown, pink and purple mardi gras beads, and a "good girl/bad girl" wand. (I accidently left the want at G2!). Cori, Heather and I then headed to Sunfire Ceramics where we met up with Heather Boege, Kellie Bauerle, Carrie, Kristin, Jill, Kim B and painted pottery and ate cheese, crackers, fruit and chocolate. Sunfire was sooooooooo much fun!!! I wish I would have done that three or four years ago. I'll have to make my way back to Lawrence for some more Art Therapy. Some left and then we went to Henry's upstairs for cocktails. YUM! Val, Monica, and Gayla met us at Henry's. I decided I didn't like the music they were playing so I said "Time for 80s Night!" Val and Monica departed, then Carrie, Kristin, Cori, Heather, Heather, Gayla and I walked to the Granada. On the way there we passed by Silas and Maddy's. I wanted ice cream, so we stopped there. YUMMMMMMY!!!! We finally got to the Granada and danced our socks off.

At one point in the evening this guy with a cape picked me up and spun me around on his shoulders, then twisted me around in some swing moves. Crazy but funny! I think I ended up kicking somebody's head b/c I didn't know what to do with my feet. I also ran into some girls from elem. school that I haven't seen since H/S graduation. It was neat to hear what they were up to.

I'm a little concerned about Saturday. I'm afraid the twins will steal the show from me on the dance floor. And I'm not sure how I feel about that.

I also just found out that our DJ never received our must play list for the reception. And we sent it months ago! AUGH. Thankfully Robbie is going to go through Itunes tomorrow and figure out what we had decided on. It really makes me mad that the DJ has been so unreliable.

Oh well.

ONE MORE DAY!
